If Stanford coach Troy Taylor doesn’t want to face his former team in his first home game with the Cardinal, he has only himself to blame.A few years ago, when he was the head coach at Sacramento State, Taylor was presented with a few potential opponents for the 2023 season by his athletic director, Mark Orr.“I was like, ‘Yeah, we’ll play Stanford,’” Taylor said. “They’re right up the street. Let’s go do it.”Taylor would go 30-8 in four years at Sacramento State, including the program’s first-ever FCS playoff win. In that same period, Stanford went 14-28 and didn’t make a bowl appearance. So Taylor, a former Cal quarterback and Utah offensive coordinator, was selected to lead the Stanford program after David Shaw resigned after last season. After opening the season at Hawaii and USC, the home debut of the Taylor era at Stanford kicks off at 5 p.m. on Saturday at Stanford Stadium.Sacramento State is now coached by Andy Thompson, who was Taylor’s defensive coordinator, and most of thei...Cisco, other tech companies chop Bay Area jobs in fresh layoffs

The Hotline mailbag publishes weekly. Send questions to [email protected] and include ‘mailbag’ in the subject line. Or hit me on Twitter: @WilnerHotline.Please note: Some questions have been edited for clarity and brevity. Some of the departing Pac-12 schools have games scheduled against teams that will soon be conference opponents. Will the newly-created openings for non-conference dates be filled by matchups against former Pac-12 teams? Are certain teams likely to avoid each other in the future? — @DOUGINTUCSONI’m not sure Cal is eager to schedule UCLA anytime soon, and relations in the Pacific Northwest are a bit rocky. But generally speaking, the Hotline hasn’t detected a level of animosity that would preclude Pac-12 football programs from scheduling home-and-home series with each other. As we see it, three issues will govern non-conference strategy:— The impact on College Football Playoff access, which won’t be clear until the select...49ers at Rams: 5 keys to winning once again at SoFi Stadium

INGLEWOOD – SoFi Stadium once again will turn into a raging, red cauldron on Sunday, reflecting the jersey color that 49ers’ players and their vast fan club will don in an annual pilgrimage to “Levi’s South.”“We have the best traveling fan base overall,” defensive end Nick Bosa said. “Pittsburgh was impressive. And I think we’ll take over L.A.”After opening the season with a 30-7 win in Pittsburgh before a large legion of 49ers Faithful, the 49ers look to win on the Rams’ field for the fifth straight season. That streak is minimized, of course, by the 49ers’ NFC Championship Game defeat two seasons ago, no matter how many red-clad 49ers fans were strewn in the bipartisan crowd. These aren’t the same Rams as that 2021 team that went on to win the Super Bowl. Only six starters remain in place, and although quarterback Matthew Stafford and defensive mainstay Aaron Donald are among them, the 49ers do not see their opponent as second-string no-names.“I know it’s like, ‘Hey, th...Apple iPhone 15 Pro deliveries slip to October in sign of demand
